Arda Asena

Arda Asena is an interdisciplinary artist from Istanbul, Turkey, whose practice brings together photography, sculpture, painting and textile. He received his BBA from Parsons the New School for Design in 2015, pursued a certificate program from the International Center of Photography (ICP) and is a recent MFA graduate from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Asena is interested in developing a visual language that attends to notions of secretive eroticism, a concept he uses to describe the modes of survival and expressions of desire queer people employ to navigate precarity caused by social and cultural violence. He has been awarded residencies at Institut für Alles Mögliche, POUSH Manifesto and Praxis Fiber Workshop. His work has been exhibited at Galleria Acta Internationale (Rome, Italy), Galerist (Istanbul, Turkey), Field Projects (New York, NY), Filter Photo (Chicago, IL), Fiber Arts International (Pittsburgh, PA) and Artworks Center for Contemporary Art (Loveland, CO).
